Walk With a Doc – by Barry Tedder M.D
I initially read about the national movement of ” Walk with a Doc ” and felt like it would be easy to do and a great idea. My wife had read about a similar one led by a doctor and writer in California before that had peaked our interest. The idea is simple- just get started with exercise. This is a program not for the athlete or health nut but for you and me; the everday Joe who likes the couch. It is a call to get up, no matter how much your back and knees hurt and how old or overweight you are. It is an opportunity to interact with doctors on a more laid back environment than the busy office. For me, it is an opportunity to see if people will take responsibility for their own health. We walk one mile on flat ground at whatever pace you choose. The doc usually leads a brief health discussion and it does not take long. Just get started with walking!
